In order for your trip to Bulgaria to be successful, read the rules that the state sets for the import of pets. Regardless of which country you come from, you can bring your pet with you as long as it is at least 6 months old.

If you are coming to Bulgaria from another EU Member State, your pet must:

• Have a microchip (or legible tattoo if applied before 07/03/2011) ISO 11784 or 11785 in accordance with the rules established by EU regulation No. 576/2013. If your pet has a different identification, you must additionally provide a microchip reader;

• Have a current rabies vaccination (In some cases, exceptions are females less than 12 weeks old or females between 12 and 16 weeks old whose vaccination at the time of travel is not appropriate);

• Comply with all necessary disease prevention measures;

• Provide an identity document (pet passport or veterinary certificate) that states the pet's date of birth; microchip number and date of its introduction; information on all available vaccines, indicating the manufacturer, lot number of the vaccine and expiration date; contact details of your veterinarian;

• Have a veterinary health certificate completed by your veterinarian.

If you are coming to Bulgaria from third countries (not EU Member States), your pet must meet the following requirements:

• The pet must have a microchip (or a readable tattoo if it was applied before 07/03/2011) of the ISO 11784 or 11785 standard in accordance with the rules established by EU regulation No. 576/2013. For other types of identification, a reader is provided by the pet's owner;

• All animals must be vaccinated against rabies (except for young dogs, cats, and ferrets);

• It is necessary to provide a certificate confirming the passage of the test for the titer of antibodies to rabies;

• Comply with all necessary disease prevention measures;

• Provide an identity document of the pet with personal information and data on the presence of all necessary vaccinations;

• Have a health certificate completed by your veterinarian.

It is allowed to bring into Bulgaria no more than 5 pets per person. If the number of pets exceeds the established norms, the animals must comply with the veterinary and sanitary rules for commercial transportation.
