TUI Airways

TUI Airways, formerly known as Thomson Airlines, is the third-largest German airline. They welcome pets in the cabin, as checked baggage in the hold and in the cargo hold on most of their flights.

If you plan a journey with your pet, you should register it while booking your own seat. If you have already booked a flight, you can do it by calling the Customer Service Center at +32 (0)2 717 86 81. The number of animals per flight is limited, so registration and confirmation at the Service Center are required in any case. If you do not inform the company of your intention to bring a pet in advance, you may be charged an additional €7.5 at the airport or even not be allowed to transport your pet.

Transportation of pets is carried out in compliance with the IATA Live Animal Regulations, which the airline can provide to you upon request. If the requirements are not met, TUI fly has the right to refuse transportation of your animal. TUI fly is not responsible for any additional costs in this case.

It is worth knowing that unaccompanied animals, pregnant animals and animals under 12 weeks old cannot be transported with TUI fly. In addition, due to strict legal regulations, animals are not transported to/from the UK, Ireland or Sweden.

Many airlines offer to check in a pet 24 hours before departure. However, it is recommended to check in a pet at the time of booking. In addition, people traveling with their pets must arrive at the airport at least 60 minutes before the start of boarding.

TUI fly offers to transport pets (dogs and cats) in the cabin or the baggage hold. If your pet weighs no more than 8 kg (including a transport bag), it is allowed to be taken in the aircraft cabin with you. To prepare for the journey, familiarize yourself with the following requirements:

You can only use a soft waterproof transport bag or basket for your pet’s transportation;

The maximum dimensions of your bag must not exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm;

The bag must have an appropriate size for the animal, so it can stand up in its natural position;

The pet’s head must not stick out of the transport bag;

You should cover the bottom of the container with absorbent material to prevent it from leaking;

It is prohibited to place the container on the seat or take the pet out of it during the flight;

Do not place the leash inside the transport container to ensure the safety of your pet;

Due to the safety requirements, people with animals in the cabin are not allowed to sit in the front row seats, emergency exit seats and aisle seats;

Each passenger is allowed to take 1 pet (dog or cat) on board;

The fee for this service is €50 per way and per animal.

Dogs and cats weighing more than 8 kg (including a transport bag) can only be transported in the baggage hold. For that, pet owners must provide a proper transport container that meets the company’s requirements:

The container must be safe and stable with enough room for the animal to stand up in its natural position, turn around and lie down;

The maximum dimensions of the container are 121 x 81 x 88 cm;

It is important that your container is bite-proof, well-ventilated, and waterproof;

You should cover the bottom of the container with absorbent material to prevent it from leaking;

It is also recommended to attach a sticker with the name, address and phone number of the pet’s owner;

It is prohibited to place the leash inside the transport container due to the safety issues;

Only one animal is allowed in the transport container;

The fee for this service is €80 per way and per animal.

Since July 1, 2004, EU rules have been tightened. Animals must always be microchip identified and have an EU Pet Passport which confirms the valid vaccination against rabies. It is very important to familiarize yourself in advance with all medical examinations/certificates and other documents required for the animal in the country of destination.

Please note that dogs and cats belonging to snub-nosed breeds have an anatomically narrowed airway and, as a result, may experience stress caused by high temperatures. It is really dangerous for their health and can lead to circulatory problems, serious injuries or even death. Therefore, TUI fly prohibits the transportation of snub-nosed breeds in the cargo hold from January 1, 2021. You can still take your pet with you into the passenger cabin.

TUI fly allows the transportation of guide dogs on board as well. Guide dogs travel in the cabin free of charge. Due to aviation security regulations, the number of guide dogs carried in the cabin of an aircraft is limited, so you must register your dog for carriage in advance with a TUI fly Service Center. Note that TUI fly does not allow guide dogs on flights to/from the UK, according to strict legal regulations in this country. It is also not possible to carry guide dogs in the cabin on long-haul flights to the Caribbean and Mexico.

Remember that if you wish to cancel the transportation of your pet and can prove that TUI fly has no or significantly lower claim for remuneration or reimbursement of expenses, TUI fly must reimburse the costs saved and/or possible other use.

Before booking your flight, do not forget to check the relevant rules governing traveling with animals in your destination country, as well as the general rules for keeping pets. You can request such information from the embassies of each country or visit the “International Travel” section of our website.
